Proverbs 31 Acrostic

Proverbs 31:10-31 (“Proverbs Woman”)

10           A wife of noble character who can find?

.                     She is worth far more than rubies.

11           Because her husband can trust her completely,

.                     he lacks nothing of value.

12           Consistently she seeks his good, not harm,

.                     all the days of her life.

13           Diligently she works with eager hands,

.                     selecting wool and flax.

14           Even if food is far away

.                     she’ll fetch it like the merchant ships.

15           Faithfully she rises before dawn

.                     to provide food for her family and servant girls.

16           Gauging a field suitable, she buys it,

.                     planting a vineyard out of her earnings.

17           Heartily she pours herself into her work

.                     with arms strong to the task at hand,

18           Insuring that her trading will be profitable,

.                     her lamp burning brightly all night long.

19           Joyfully holding distaff in hand,

.                     she grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20           Kindness flows from her open arms to the poor,

.                     through her outstretched hands to the needy.

21           Let it snow—she has not fear for her household;

.                     she has clothed them in scarlet.

22           Majestic in clothes of purple and fine linen,

.                     she stoops to make her own bedcovers.

23           Noted and respected at the city gate, her husband

.                     takes his seat among the elders of the land.

24           Of linen she makes garments to sell,

.                     supplying the merchants with sashes.

25           Perfectly robed in strength and dignity,

.                     she laughs at the days to come.

26           Quiet wisdom is on her lips,

.                     faithful instruction on her tongue.

27           Religiously watching her household affairs,

.                     she does not eat the bread of idleness,

28           So that her children rise, to call her blessed,

.                     and her husband beams with pride:

29           “Though many women do noble deeds,

.                     you outshine them all!”

30           Understand this: Charm deceives and beauty fades,

.                     but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

31           Virtue should be promptly rewarded:

.                     let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
